The Illinois landlord accused of killing a Palestinian American boy and wounding his mom in a hate-fueled stabbing assault pleaded not responsible to all prices Monday.
Joseph Czuba, 71, faces homicide, tried homicide and hate crime prices for the Oct. 14 stabbings that took the lifetime of Wadea Al-Fayoume, 6, and left mom Hanaan Shahin in crucial situation.
Police mentioned Mr. Czuba attacked the household resulting from their Muslim religion and in response to the Hamas militant group assault on Israel.
Ms. Shahin instructed police that Mr. Czuba turned violent after she requested him to “pray for peace” once they have been discussing the battle.
Mr. Czuba is the household’s landlord in Plainfield Township, about 40 miles southwest of Chicago.
Charging paperwork accuse Mr. Czuba of exhibiting “exceptionally brutal or heinous conduct” when he stabbed Wadea 26 occasions with a serrated knife. He is also accused of stabbing Ms. Shahin greater than a dozen occasions.
The defendant is due again in courtroom Jan. 8.
